So, I’m not very comfortable with merging 3dm’s into the CAM, unless there’s an issue that comes up with the igs/iges for example. But in the past I didn’t really use 3dm’s much due to similar ‘inverse’-like misinterpretation or rather file conversion conflicts between programs – per say. Sometimes a “line” will get misinterpreted as a “curve” and I’ll mitigate that with a 3dm format version to correct the misinterpretation. ![]() Then igs I use for surfaces, curves, lines, points data for things like toolpath start points, reference points, end points, tool axis control, tool containment, region plugs, etc. Usually the stl is for stock models, tool geometry, machine geo., collision detection type stuff. ![]() ![]() In my workflow from CAD to CAM in the last few yrs I’ve been using stl, igs, stp, and 3dm. OBJ is my preference for textured 3D scans… and 3MF is interesting for multi colored 3D prints with hierarchical overlapping.
